Can you actually remove negative Google search results about you?

Google removes some content automatically
Google will remove search results for: personal information like SSN or bank details, content that violates copyright, revenge porn, and content that violates their policies. You request removal through Google Search Console or the removal tool. This is actually possible.
You can't delete content you don't own
If negative articles, forum posts, or reviews exist on other websites, Google removing the search result doesn't delete the original. The content still exists online—just doesn't show up in Google. It might still rank elsewhere or appear if someone searches directly on that site.
The real solution: bury it
Instead of removal, professionals create positive content that ranks higher for your name. After months, negative results move to page two or three. Most people don't look past the first page. This is slow but often more realistic than deletion.
Contact the site itself
If content is factually wrong or violates the site's policy, contact the website owner directly and request removal. This sometimes works, especially for old forum posts or abandoned blogs. Provide specific reasons why content should be removed.
When removal actually works
You have the best chance removing content you created yourself (old social posts, outdated blog entries). Removal is harder for content others wrote about you.
